NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT - The Michigan Bucks because the first squad to return to the Hank Steinbrecher Cup and defend its title. Behind an impenetrable defense, the Bucks shut out Elm City 1-0 in its semifinal match and then continued the shutout streak by defeating the Charlotte Eagles 2-0 in the championship.
The title game was tied at zero until the 62nd minute when David Goldsmith smashed a ball past the Charlotte Eagles' keeper. Austin Ricci added the insurance goal in the 80th minute. Charlotte, which played an overtime semifinal match the night before, didn't have an answer for the Bucks.
