The North Carolina Adult Soccer Association has recognized Mr. Mark Halstead, a long serving professional within the City of Asheville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department, with the honor of being the association’s recipient of the NCASA Recreation & Parks Award.  Presentation of the award was made as part of the NC Soccer Showcase weekend during the NC Soccer Awards Luncheon held in January at the Koury Convention Center at Four Seasons Sheraton in Greensboro, NC.

The recognition of Mr. Halstead for NCASA’s Recreation and Parks Award is tantamount to his support of the fast growing affiliated adult league in his area – Asheville Buncombe Adult Soccer Association.  It is unquestionable that he is a supporter of soccer and of NC Adult Soccer Association.  Since assuming responsibility for soccer facilities in Asheville, Mr. Halstead has made a concerted effort to work with the soccer community to assure that it has adequate field use.

“I work with both ABYSA and ABASA primarily for facility use and coordinating programs. This includes working to develop Azalea Park and the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex; its use for recreation programs as well as hosting youth and adult tournaments.”

Through the collaborative efforts of the Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department, Asheville Buncombe Youth and Adult Soccer associations as well as the support ofNorth Carolina Adult Soccer, the City of Asheville was able to enhance the crown jewel of soccer facilities in western North Carolina by adding lighting systems to all the fields at the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex.

“Thanks to the work done by Mr. Halstead and his staff, North Carolina Adult Soccer has thoroughly enjoyed its three years of state cup tournaments in Asheville,” offered Diego Munoz, Director of North Carolina Adult Soccer.  “The facility, staff and City have been tremendous in their efforts and hospitality.”

Mr. Halstead has been employed with the City of Asheville, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Dept. for 21 years. He has held numerous positions with the department during that time frame and currently serves as the Programs Supervisor for Athletics.
