Big Cup Weekend with Amateur & O-40 Quarterfinals

West Chester United (EPA) came back from a two-goal deficit to eliminate Christos FC (MD) for a second consecutive cup in their Werner Fricker Cup tie this past Wednesday. Cody Albrecht had put the Maryland side in a comfortable first half lead setting up Danny Baxter and David Harris for their goals. Troy Amspacher cut the lead in half in the 52nd minute and an own goal in the 68th drew it even. The match went into penalties with West Chester advancing 7:6 to book a semifinal date against Amherst Shooters (WNY).

Heavy schedule this weekend as we have quarterfinal rounds in both the Amateur and National Over-40 Cups. It starts on Saturday with Vistula Garfield SC (NJ) hosting Fall River FC (MA) at 20th Century Field in the Amateur Cup. This is the first return of a side from Fall River that boasts several titles in both the Open and Amateur Cups. The other quarterfinal games feature West Chester United (EPA) against Appalachia Steel FC (PAW) and BSC Raiders (WNY) versus NOVA FC (MDCVA).

We also have the National Over-40 Cup with defending champion Fairfield GAC (CT) hosting Safira FC (MA), last season's finalist Renegades (MDCVA) will be visited by Radnor Phoenix (EPA), the Screaming Eagles O40 (MDCVA) traveling to Maryland to meet Christos FC (MD) and Manhattan Celtic (ENY) battling Den of Lions Legends (NJ).

The winners of this weekend will advance to their respective semifinals on 15 May. The last set of quarterfinals will be the Gerhard Mengel Cup round on 1 May.
