We got off to a good start of our 2022 Cup Season as we played three of our quarterfinal rounds in the Werner Fricker Cup and a first round Amateur Cup tie. The upset of the weekend was the elimination of two-time cup holder Lansdowne Yonkers FC (ENY) in the Werner Fricker Cup at the hands of Providence City FC (MA) on Saturday evening. Last season, the Bhoys took both the Region and national double winning also the Amateur Cup.
Providence will host in the semifinals Jackson Lions FC (NJ) who easily managed a 5:1 victory over KO Elites (CT) 5:1. Joel Quist contributed a brace with Walter Calderon, Kevin Simek and Miguel Alves scoring as well.
The other quarterfinal was a 1:1 draw between Appalachia Steel FC (WV) and Amherst Sharpshooters (WNY) with Amherst prevailing 6:5 on penalties. They await the winner between Christos FC (MD) and West Chester United (EPA) that will be played on 20 April.
Those two met for a first round Amateur Cup game with the Eastern Pennsylvania side moving forward after a 5:2 victory. Carter Burris netted each side of the half for West Chester with teammates Conor Bradley, Jake Gosselin and Sama Tima adding their parts. Jacob Bender and Malcolm Harris scored for Christos. West Chester will host Appalachia Steel FC in the quarterfinals.
