We want to educate our US Soccer family about Power Soccer and make you aware of the 2017 FIPFA World Cup taking place in the US this summer. Our hope is you will share with your friends and family to support Team USA as they defend their title in Kissimmee, FL from July 5-9. The athletes of Team USA have a legacy as Power Soccer world champions and they could use your support in hosting the World Cup. The hope is we can open opportunities for future players beyond the World Cup. Meet the athletes of Team USA: https://vimeo.com/166286975
United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) is the US Soccer affiliate responsible to provide persons with physical disabilities using power chairs the opportunity to play, learn, and compete in the sport of Power Soccer. USPSA is responsible for promoting the sport on a national and international level through tournament play, referee certification, training and continued growth. The participants include people with quadriplegia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, head trauma, stroke, spinal cord injury and other disabilities. Currently, there are over 150 teams that are organized throughout the US. 60 teams compete on a regular basis. To give perspective, there are over 400,000 people in the US that use a power wheelchair for their daily mobility. We’ve only reached 1%. If you know of someone that would like to get involved, please contact USPSA and connect them to a world of new sporting opportunities.
Power Soccer is the fastest growing sport for power wheelchair users. It combines the skill of the person with the speed and power of the chair to create a fun, competitive and accessible opportunity to play the most popular sport in the world. Modifications include playing in a gym on a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four athletes in power wheelchairs attack, defend and spin-kick a 13” soccer ball in an attempt to score goals. As USPSA is a 100% volunteer driven organization, they could use your help in making this event possible. Costs for the US to host and attend the 2017 World Cup on their home turf will run upwards of $700,000. Even as back to back Powerchair Football World Cup Champions, the team struggles to afford the basic needs of a national team. Each athlete and staff member are responsible for all costs related to training and they have spent upwards of $10-12,000 to attend camps leading up to the World Cup.
As they continue their quest for a three-peat, Team USA is seeking donations of $20.17 (or more as your budget allows). Beyond making donations, Team USA can really use your help spreading the word about the national team and power soccer. Let your national or local newspaper know about this great story. Sign up to volunteer! Go Team USA! #UnitedStrongAble #RollPower.#FIPFAworldcup
