Michigan Bucks Win Hank Steinbrecher Cup

The Michigan Bucks added another title to their trophy cabinet on Saturday, earning a 3-0 win against AFC Cleveland to claim the 2017 Hank Steinbrecher Cup.

The 2016 PDL Championship winners reached the U.S. Soccer National Amateur Championship and lifted the trophy after defeating Chicago FC United 2-0 in the tournament's semifinals on Friday.

"Winning championships and gaining exposure for our players are what the Bucks are all about," Bucks Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dan Duggan told "The guys rose to the occasion on Saturday playing with a depleted roster due to Friday injuries but showed that every man on our team has to contribute if we are to continue to win titles. Having to play eight meaningful games in the first three weeks of the season is brutal. My coaching staff has done an incredible job of preparing the boys both physically and mentally to compete at the highest level.

"We enjoy playing top-caliber teams in this style of format because it is the same as our conference final four later in July," Duggan added. "You have to be able to be mentally ready to play two quality opponents with very little time to recover, so that usually means the team with the most depth is going to be successful. Right now, we have very good depth and hope we can be in that position at the end of July as well."

The victory marks the second consecutive year a Premier Development League team has earned the title, as the Chicago Fire U23 won the U.S. Soccer National Amateur Championship in 2016, defeating Chattanooga FC 2-1.
